Typically Ed and I are very much home-bodies who like to stay home especially on evenings such as the fourth of July and New Year's Eve; however, yesterday we broke out of our mold. We both agreed that we needed to allow Nico to see some professional-not-scary fireworks. You see, last year we were in Wisconsin for the 4th. To be specific we were on his family's farm in which some of the men decided to take it upon themselves to shoot off fireworks...while drinking of course. Needless to say, with the fireworks being so close, they were extremely loud and scared poor little Nico who had never experienced fireworks before.
So we packed up the cooler and the car and headed to the base where we found a great little spot on the lake to watch the fireworks. Nico played in the lake a little bit while we waited for darkness to fall, we watched the boats on the lake, and we had ourselves a little picnic dinner. We wouldn't let him go all out and play in the water as if he would at the beach because Ed and I just weren't up for the possibility of Nico contracting a parasite from the dirty lake water!
I don't think Natalee has caught up on her sleep from our trip, so she was a little cranky, but thankfully we brought the pop-up tent to the lake (as we had the beach) and Natalee finally was able to take a nap in there.
When the fireworks finally started, which of course was way past everyone's bedtimes, Nico jumped up and down and stared in awe at the pretty colors, which were in no way outdone by their sonicboom sounds. He was able to appreciate the fireworks and their beauty, but the poor child was so tired that he requested to go home before the finale even occurred. Luckily he still saw the great fireworks finale as we were packing up to head to the car.
