In addition to the day trip we took to DC on Mother's Day, Gigi, the kids and I headed to the city via the Metro two more times while she was visiting. I must say that I have acclimated to riding the train now! I understand how to figure out where I am going, what colored line we need to take, and get around in the train stations! This is quite a feat for a southerner!
During our second trip to the nation's capital we visited the Smithsonian's National Zoo. It seemed that we must have picked the wrong time of the year to try to visit some of these attractions, with all the school field trips that were around every corner. The zoo was big and had more animals than you could shake a stick at to see, including Panda Bears, which seemed quite unique to me. Even with the overwhelming crowds of people, the kids had a good time, however, it was not quite as fun for the adults. We will have to go back and try to visit when it will not be so crowded because we have heard such great reviews of the zoo.
After the zoo, we walked up Connecticut Ave which was lined with cute restaurants, shops and townhouses. We found a great little place to eat, that I would highly recommend, caught the train back to the main museum area of DC where let the kids play in the lawn of the Archives before heading home.
